Dr. Mosley writes, "Apples, besides being a rich source of fiber, are packed with beneficial compounds known as flavonoids. The majority of these flavonoids are located in or just beneath the apple's skin. Hence, it's ideal to consume apples with their peel. These flavonoids, apart from reducing inflammation and improving blood pressure, have been shown to lower cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of diabetes."

A study conducted by Edith Cowan University in Western Australia observed a group of women over 70 for a span of 15 years. The findings revealed that those who consumed at least one apple daily had a 35% reduced likelihood of mortality compared to those who didn't.

Catherine Bondonno, a nutrition expert and co-author of the aforementioned study, recommends the Pink Lady variety.
