Court cases connected to these crimes also draw attention to the dangers people can face even after seeking legal protection.

Domestic violence cases often leave lasting effects long after the physical injuries heal. Survivors can face years of emotional and medical recovery.

Suffered 20 stab wounds

Actor Nick Pasqual has been found guilty of several serious crimes connected to an attack on his former partner, makeup artist Allie Shehorn, reports Unilad. The verdict was delivered in California after a jury trial in San Fernando.

Pasqual, who appeared in television series including How I Met Your Mother, was convicted of attempted murder, rape, first degree burglary, and charges linked to domestic violence. He now faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.

Prosecutors told the court that the attack happened in May 2024 at Shehorn’s home. According to testimony, Pasqual entered the property despite a restraining order against him. Shehorn told the jury she woke up around 4.30 in the morning as he tried to break into the house.

She said she locked the door, but he punched holes through it and forced his way inside. She then ran into the bathroom hoping the second door would protect her. During the attack, she suffered more than 20 stab wounds.

Shehorn later appeared in court and showed jurors scars that remain visible on her body. She also described earlier abuse. According to her testimony, Pasqual had previously assaulted her and struck her with a belt in the months before the stabbing.

Attempted escape to Mexico

After the attack, Pasqual fled the scene and left Shehorn seriously injured. A friend later found her bleeding and called for help. Doctors performed several surgeries after she was taken to hospital. She spent more than a week in critical condition. Her injuries included wounds to the neck, arms, and abdomen.

While Shehorn was recovering in intensive care, authorities say Pasqual tried to escape into Mexico. He was arrested near Sierra Blanca, Texas, about a week after the attack.

Shehorn later said she was determined to attend the trial because she wanted justice. She also explained that the injuries caused long term damage and affected her eyesight and ability to work.

After the verdict, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón described the attack as brutal. He said the case should serve as a reminder of the serious risks connected to domestic violence and the importance of holding offenders accountable.
