Melania Trump has shared rare personal details about her son Barron Trump, describing his close relationship with her late mother as deeply emotional and rooted in family tradition.
Just Jared reported that the former first lady reflected on the connection between Barron and her mother, Amalija Knavs, in written responses provided to USA Today.
Family connection
According to Melania Trump, Barron and his grandmother developed a “distinct bond” shaped in part by their shared Slovenian heritage.
She explained that Amalija Knavs helped strengthen Barron’s connection to Slovenia through language, food and storytelling.
“Both speaking the same language allowed them to communicate deeply and meaningfully,” Melania said.
“So magical”
Melania described her mother, who died in 2024 at the age of 78, as “the epitome of love and warmth.”
She recalled moments where Barron and his grandmother spent time reading, playing games and laughing together.
“My mother and Barron had a distinct bond, beginning with her gentle embrace,” Melania wrote.
“Their connection was so magical. And I loved watching it.”
Rare comments on Barron
Just Jared noted that Barron, the youngest and most private of Donald Trump’s five children, has rarely been discussed publicly by family members.
Questions about his relationship with older siblings Ivanka, Donald Jr., Eric and Tiffany Trump have circulated for years, though Melania instead chose to focus on his bond with her mother.
She said Amalija’s meals and stories created “unforgettable memories” for the family.
Donald Trump responds
The comments came shortly after Donald Trump was asked during an interview whether Barron could eventually enter politics.
“Well maybe,” Trump said during an appearance on Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.
“He’s certainly a popular guy.”
Just Jared also noted that Barron recently drew media attention after reportedly contacting police in Britain over an alleged crime witnessed during a phone call with a friend.
