Fresh allegations about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s behaviour have emerged in a forthcoming royal biography, including claims that he struck one of his own dogs during a shooting event at Sandringham.
The accusations appear in a new book by royal biographer Andrew Lownie, adding to years of scrutiny surrounding the Duke of York’s conduct and reputation, reports The Express.
Claims in book
According to Lownie’s upcoming title, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, the alleged incident took place during a pheasant shoot attended by friends of the Royal Family at the Norfolk estate.
The author writes that guests had paused for refreshments when Andrew’s Labrador reportedly grabbed a sausage roll from a visitor’s hand.
Lownie claims the royal reacted by “kicked the dog in the head, leaving her whimpering on the ground.”
According to the book, the shocked guest replied: “That is the most disgusting thing that you have just done to your beautiful dog. You should be ashamed of yourself!”
Heated exchange
Lownie alleges Andrew responded: “F*** off. It is none of your business and I will do precisely what I want to my dogs.”
The author further claims other members of the shooting party later showed approval toward the guest for challenging the prince.
In the book, Lownie also alleges that Prince Philip later approached the guest and said: “What you said to my son today was absolutely right and Her Majesty and I fully agree with what you said. Andrew needs a good scolding from time to time.”
The claims have not been independently verified.
Earlier accusations
Royal author Tom Bower has previously made separate allegations about Andrew’s behaviour during his time as a UK trade representative.
Speaking to the Daily Expresso, Bower recalled an incident in Warsaw involving a British diplomat with a visible disability.
Bower claimed Andrew shouted: “What the f*** are you cripple doing coming to interrupt me?”
The writer added: “That is the way that Andrew behaved. A really shocking, shocking, selfish, stupid man.”
Andrew has faced repeated criticism in recent years over both his personal conduct and his role within the Royal Family.
