Ukraine has urged allies to increase military support after Russia launched one of the largest drone and missile attacks on Kyiv since the start of the war.
Ukraine’s foreign minister has called on Western allies to increase military and political support after Russia launched one of its largest aerial attacks on Kyiv since the war began.
The bombardment reportedly involved hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, damaging infrastructure across the Ukrainian capital.
Heavy bombardment
According to Digi24, citing EFE and Agerpres, Russia launched more than 500 drones alongside dozens of missiles during the latest attack on Kyiv.
Several buildings were damaged, including Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry headquarters.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha shared videos and photographs showing shattered windows and destruction inside the ministry building.
The attack marked one of the first times the ministry itself has reportedly been directly damaged since World War II.
Appeal to allies
Sybiha urged Ukraine’s international partners to strengthen support in response to the attacks.
“We call for additional defensive capabilities, including the protection of our airspace, investments in our defense industry, greater pressure on Russia,” he wrote on X.
According to Digi24, he also pushed for stronger political backing regarding Ukraine’s bid to join the European Union.
“It is time to insist, not retreat,” Sybiha added.
Defiance in Kyiv
The Ukrainian foreign minister condemned what he described as the “barbaric” nature of the Russian bombardment.
“Looking at the broken windows this morning, I can say with full confidence on behalf of our entire diplomatic team: Russian terrorism will not stop us,” he said.
“We are facing hordes of barbarians, not heirs of civilization,” Sybiha added.
Despite the attacks, Ukrainian officials said diplomatic operations would continue as normal.
Air defence response
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched around 690 aerial weapons during the assault, including drones and several types of missiles.
Officials claimed Ukrainian air defences destroyed 549 drones and intercepted another 55 missiles.
Kyiv has repeatedly appealed for additional Western air defence systems as Russia continues large-scale strikes targeting cities and infrastructure.
