EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has condemned Russia’s latest attack on Kyiv as an “abominable act of terror” aimed at intimidating civilians.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has strongly condemned Russia’s latest large-scale attack on Kyiv, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting civilians.
The remarks came after Ukrainian officials reported one of the biggest combined missile and drone assaults since the war began.
EU condemnation
According to Digi24, citing Agerpres, Kallas described the latest Russian attacks as “abominable acts of terror.”
“Russia has reached a stalemate on the battlefield, so it is terrorizing Ukraine with deliberate attacks on city centers,” she wrote on X.
“These are abominable acts of terror designed to kill as many civilians as possible,” Kallas added.
The attacks struck residential areas of Kyiv during bombardments overnight from Saturday into Sunday.
Missile concerns
Kallas also reacted to reports that Russia may have used an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile during the assault.
According to Digi24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the weapon was involved in the latest attacks.
“Moscow’s alleged use of Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile systems, designed to carry nuclear warheads, is a political tactic of intimidation and a reckless policy of nuclear risk,” Kallas said.
The missile system has drawn attention due to its potential nuclear capability.
Massive attack
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched around 690 aerial weapons during the attack, including drones and several missile types.
Officials claimed Ukrainian air defences destroyed 549 drones and intercepted 55 missiles.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Kyiv was the primary target of the bombardment campaign.
The strikes caused damage across multiple areas of the capital.
Pressure on Moscow
Kallas said EU foreign ministers would discuss additional measures against Russia during an upcoming informal meeting in Cyprus.
According to Digi24, European officials are expected to debate ways of increasing international pressure on Moscow as the war continues.
The EU has repeatedly accused Russia of targeting civilian infrastructure and using terror tactics during its attacks on Ukrainian cities.
