Branding is everything in the modern world, especially for people who build careers around a recognizable name.
When a powerful leader stamps their identity onto public landmarks, it usually sparks a fierce fight. Now, a lawmaker claims there is a desperate motive behind this obsession, UNILAD reports.
Building a monument
Donald Trump has spent decades putting his name on luxury buildings worldwide. But according to UNILAD, his second White House term features a whole new branding blitz. This includes trying to place his face on a new $250 bill and renaming the Kennedy Center.
Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff launched a blistering attack on this behavior during an Atlanta speech. Ossoff argued that the branding is a frantic attempt to secure a legacy.
“He’s trying to put his face on the money, did you see that?” Ossoff said. “He’s building a monument to himself.”
A national disgrace
The senator told the crowd that the president’s branding frenzy stems from a deep fear of being forgotten by history.
“But see, Atlanta, he’s doing these things now because no one will honor him when he’s gone, because he’s a failed president and a national disgrace.” Ossoff said.
Meanwhile, a federal judge dealt a major blow to the branding campaign. The court ordered Trump’s name stripped from the Kennedy Center within 14 days, stating that the board could not unilaterally alter the venue’s identity.
“The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board’s unilateral say-so.” the judge ruled.
Never never land
The name remains on the building for now, prompting several angry artists to cancel their upcoming performances in protest.
The court defeat quickly provoked a furious social media tirade from the president on Truth Social.
Trump slammed the decision and threatened to walk away entirely. “Unless I am free to do what I do better than anyone else, bring this Institution back, physically, financially, and artistically, I have no interest in continuing what could only be a hopeless journey into ‘NEVER NEVER LAND’.” he wrote.
