Navigating family drama is tough for anyone, but doing it in front of millions of flashing cameras makes things much harder.
When public scandals tear through a family tree, the innocent relatives often end up caught in the crossfire. According to The Express, a recent high-profile gathering finally showed where everyone stands.
Bracing the cameras
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie surprised royal fans by attending a major family event earlier this month. They did not walk in alone. The sisters arrived with their husbands at All Saints’ Church in Gloucestershire for the wedding of Peter and Harriet Phillips.
Their appearance came amid intense public scrutiny. Lately, rumors have swirled that Prince William had grown increasingly wary of his two cousins. The gossip was relentless.
The tension stems from the severe reputational damage suffered by their parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, over their ties to Jeffrey Epstein. While critics want the sisters to step back completely, King Charles is reportedly still very fond of his nieces.
A warm greeting
Prince William quickly put the rumors to rest when he arrived at the church. Photographers captured the future king warmly greeting both Beatrice and Eugenie outside the venue. He even leaned in to kiss Beatrice on the cheek.
The public display of affection caught the attention of royal experts. Speaking to the Mirror, BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared her thoughts on the interaction.
“I think there’s an interesting comparison to be made between the way William greeted his cousins at the wedding and his obvious contempt for their father at the Duchess of Kent‘s funeral,” Bond stated.
Wearing his heart
“William does sometimes seem to wear his heart on his sleeve, so I think we can conclude that he doesn’t hold Beatrice and Eugenie responsible in any way for their parents’ sins,” Bond explained to the Mirror.
She added that “He knew the cameras were there, and he made a point of greeting them warmly.” The gesture provided a massive sigh of relief for the sisters during a stressful public outing.
“It must have been quite emotional for the princesses, who were already braving the lion in the den by appearing at such a high-profile event,” Bond remarked. Earlier, she told the publication, “I thought it was quite brave of Beatrice and Eugenie to show up… knowing that the cameras would be on them.”
