Turkey demands a Gaza ceasefire before resuming trade with Israel.
Turkey’s trade with Israel will not resume until a permanent ceasefire is achieved in Gaza, according to Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, as reported by 24TV.
Bolat emphasized that this stance was established to expedite a ceasefire and facilitate the rebuilding of Gaza, along with the delivery of food and medical aid to the region.
Trade Suspension Aimed at Prompting Peace
The suspension of trade was initially decided on May 2, aiming to pressure Israel into agreeing to a ceasefire.
The Turkish government hopes this will lead to the restoration of Gaza and the provision of essential supplies to its residents.
“Turkey continues its trade with Palestine, ensuring that the Palestinian economy suffers minimal losses,” Bolat said, highlighting Turkey’s ongoing support for Palestine amidst the conflict.
In May, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, urging an immediate halt.
He criticized Western nations for supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that such support perpetuates the violence in Palestine.
