A bird flu outbreak has caused an egg shortage, prompting McDonald’s in Australia to reduce its breakfast menu hours.

Late risers in Australia will now have less time to enjoy McDonald’s breakfast items like the popular McMuffin.

Due to an egg shortage caused by a local bird flu outbreak, McDonald’s has shortened its breakfast service, which will now end at 10:30 a.m. instead of 12 noon.

“Like many retailers, we are carefully managing egg supplies due to the current challenges in the industry,” McDonald’s announced on Facebook.

The company assured customers that it is working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Bird Flu Outbreak

Since May, Australia has been dealing with outbreaks of several strains of highly contagious bird flu, affecting multiple poultry farms in the southeast of the country.

According to a report by Reuters, these outbreaks have impacted about ten percent of Australia’s laying hens.

So far, around 1.5 million chickens have been culled. But it is not the H5N1 variant spreading in the USA.

Authorities claim to have contained the virus successfully, but several retailers have limited the number of eggs sold per customer.
