A quiet schedule
The current First Lady has become a rare sight in Washington. Over the course of 2026, Melania Trump stepped out for public events on just 38 days, according to a recent report by The Irish Star.
That number falls far below the traditional expectations for the role. For comparison, Laura Bush logged roughly 120 public days a year, while Michelle Obama typically recorded between 100 and 150.

Growing apart
Speaking on the Daily Beast Podcast with journalist Joanna Coles, the financier shared a blunt assessment of the relationship.
“I think it’s distant, you know, and I think it’s distant for a number of different reasons,” he said. “But I think they probably have grown apart.”
He added that her main priority is simply avoiding any public embarrassment for the president. Still, he believes the couple no longer shares a living space.
“Let’s say the First Lady’s office, her office, is virtually non-existent,” he said. The traditional East Wing workspace was famously demolished to make room for a massive $400 million ballroom project.

The president famously hates sharing attention. Wolff noted that her unpredictable schedule reportedly makes the political team very nervous about what she might do next.
“Doesn’t mind you making money, but do not steal the limelight,” he explained.
