Trump on Karoline Leavitt’s sudden exit: “She likes her children more than she likes Trump”

Choosing her young family over the demanding pace of the White House press room, Karoline Leavitt stepped down from her high-profile post to put her children first.

During a recent television interview on Fox News, President Donald Trump addressed the upcoming departure of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the Irish Star reports.

He joked that she is stepping down from her high-profile role at the end of the month simply because her children come before him.

“No, she’s not, she really isn’t,” Trump said when asked whether Leavitt could ever be replaced at the podium. He praised her past work before poking fun at her resignation.

“But I found out she likes her children more than she likes Trump, I’m very concerned about that!” he joked.

Scouting a replacement

When the conversation turned to who might take over the podium, Trump pointed directly at reporter Alexis McAdams.

Instead of naming an official candidate, he turned the question on McAdams mid-interview, playfully offering the position to the reporter herself and praising her on air.

Trump confirmed that Leavitt will remain in his inner orbit as a senior outside advisor.

A historic tenure

Leavitt’s departure comes after a historic tenure in the White House.

At 28, she became the youngest person ever to serve as White House press secretary and quickly emerged as one of Trump’s most trusted advisers.

Reuters also reports that she will remain involved in Trump’s political movement as an outside communications adviser, meaning her departure is not a complete break from the administration.

She is expected to remain involved as Republicans head toward the November midterm elections.
