Trump just turned his own recruitment crisis into a massive public joke.
Finding the right person to handle hostile questions on live television is an enormous challenge for any government.
Usually, the search for a new spokesperson happens quietly behind closed doors. Not this time.
Mocking the media
Donald Trump hopped on social media late Thursday night to mock the growing frenzy over his vacant press secretary job. He shared a fabricated image of himself standing right behind the famous White House briefing room podium.
He added a short caption declaring himself “The Best Press Secretary.” The post appeared on his Truth Social platform according to Daily Mail.
That digital prank arrived just days after Karoline Leavitt shocked Washington by announcing her resignation. The official plans to leave her demanding post at the end of August.
Leavitt recently welcomed her second child. According to the Daily Mail, the mother wants to spend more time raising her young family away from the cameras.
A difficult choice
The outgoing official shared a heartfelt message on the platform X on Wednesday to explain her sudden exit.
“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” Leavitt wrote.
Trump quickly responded on Truth Social. He called the exit “a decision I totally understand and respect,” while praising her as “one of the best White House press secretaries in the history of the office.”
Her departure creates a massive hole in the administration. Even so, Semafor and CNN both reported that the president feels no rush to name a permanent replacement right away.
The replacement race
Several prominent figures are quietly circling the prestigious job. CNN political commentator Scott Jennings has emerged as a very serious contender.
An anonymous insider close to Jennings told the Daily Mail exactly where things stand right now.
“It’s his if he wants it,” the source said. “And he does.”
Despite that confidence, other political insiders claim Trump specifically wants a woman to take over the daily press briefings.
Former lawyer Alina Habba also surfaced as a strong candidate. Political strategist Elizabeth Pipko has enthusiastic fans lobbying on her behalf.
