But in the modern media age, some politicians prefer to skip the wait and write their own legacy. One recent social media post shows exactly how that looks.
Donald Trump recently decided to evaluate the historical impact of American leaders. According to TVPWorld cited by Digi24, he shared a customized infographic on his Truth Social platform that sorts past presidents into six different tiers.
The categories range from terrible to spectacular. The former president firmly placed himself alone in the highest possible tier.
A custom chart
The social media image features portraits of 34 different commanders in chief. Trump labeled his own picture with the title of “greatest”, leaving no room for anyone else at the peak.
Meanwhile, he handed out harsh grades to his modern political rivals. The chart categorized recent Democratic presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Jimmy Carter as outright “failures”.
Bill Clinton landed right in the middle. The graphic labeled the husband of Trump’s former election opponent as an “average” leader.
Missing famous faces
This specific post arrived shortly after a highly flattering television segment. CNN recently broadcast a poll showing that 53 percent of Republicans view Trump as their most admired Republican president.
That impressive survey number puts him above universally celebrated figures like Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
But observers quickly noticed something strange about the image itself. The chart completely left out several major Republican leaders, including George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, and even Reagan.
Journalist Mike Rothschild pointed out the bizarre reason behind these missing faces. He noted that the base graphic was actually lifted directly from a 1948 issue of LIFE magazine. Whoever created the new image simply pasted five newer portraits onto the old template.
Polling reality check
While the social media post projects total confidence, recent national numbers tell a slightly different story. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Trump hitting an all-time low approval rating of just 33 percent.
According to the survey data, this sharp drop directly aligns with ongoing economic turmoil in global oil markets and the current war in Iran.
Professional scholars also strongly disagree with the top ranking. In 2024, a major survey of 154 historical experts ranked Trump as the worst president in United States history, according to Digi24.
