Seeking a breakthrough
A striking new plan aims to fix the troop shortage facing the United States in the Middle East. Security expert AJ Jaff recently outlined aggressive strategies to end the war with Iran.
Writing in the Jerusalem Post cited by The Irish Star, Jaff argued that current bombing campaigns have failed to force Iranian leaders to the negotiating table.
He noted that the military needs a new approach, writing, “The Pentagon still lacks the tools needed to end the war with the Islamic Republic.”
A massive ground invasion seems like the obvious next step. However, the American military simply lacks the personnel to control such a vast country, according to the Irish Star.
The math problem
Taking full control of the nation would require a staggering amount of manpower. Jaff explained the sheer scale of the challenge in his analysis.
“Estimates for a successful ground campaign against Iran’s 31 provincial commands and its Mosaic Defence Doctrine run between 750,000 and 1.5 million American troops,” Jaff wrote.
He then pointed to the active army, which sits at roughly 452,000 soldiers. Reviewing the numbers, Jaff stated bluntly, “The math does not work, obviously.”
A financial lifeline
To overcome this massive troop deficit, Jaff suggested a debt forgiveness program. He noted that the average American between the ages of 18 and 34 carries more than 40,000 dollars in non-mortgage debt.
Jaff proposed that the government could clear these debts completely in exchange for voluntary military service. “The Iran war will need to offer debt relief,” he wrote.
“The economics of the indebted American 20-and 30-something make this the most efficient conversion mechanism available to the Pentagon and the Trump administration,” Jaff explained.
Geopolitical gambles
Jaff also proposed other controversial strategies for President Donald Trump to consider. One idea involves officially recognizing breakaway ethnic groups inside Iran, such as Kurdish populations, as independent nations.
Jaff insisted this move “would do something no airstrike can do.” He acknowledged that regional neighbors would likely protest, adding, “Sure, Turkey will object, and Iraq likely will as well. But that is the point.”
His final recommendation involves a complex deal with China over Iranian oil access. Jaff admitted this move could force Washington to abandon Taiwan, handing the Chinese government a massive geopolitical victory.
