A terrifying shift
According to The Daily Beast, best-selling author Michael Wolff recently shared dark details on his Substack. His new post focuses on the relationship between Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump.
The writer claims the convicted sex offender watched his former friend climb the political ladder with deep anxiety. He took the campaign more seriously than almost anyone else.
“He was afraid of Trump, terrified perhaps,” Wolff wrote. “And when Trump won, Epstein saw the game change for him personally.”
Dangerous secrets
Behind the scenes, Wolff pushed his subject to go public with the damaging information he held. Epstein refused, fearing severe retaliation if he exposed their shared past.
“I may be a pedophile, but I don’t have a death wish,” Epstein said, according to Wolff.
Years earlier, their friendship famously fell apart over a 2004 real estate deal. In response, Epstein allegedly threatened the future president by mentioning a suspected money-laundering operation.
Soon after that clash, local police in Palm Beach started investigating the billionaire’s private life. Looking back, The Daily Beast noted that Epstein firmly believed his former associate sparked that very investigation to settle the score.
The final mistake
Things took a dark turn after Wolff published some of these details in a previous book. Epstein reportedly admitted that letting those stories slip was a “mistake.”
Within a month, federal agents arrested him on his return from Paris. Wolff suggests the timing was no coincidence.
“I believe that Epstein understood the wholly unique position he was in: he had led a depraved life, one which the president of the United States had participated in,” the author wrote.
An obsessive fear
To the very end, the presidency consumed Epstein’s thoughts. The author described it as a constant preoccupation that overshadowed his own legal troubles.
“Epstein, for Trump, was a dangerous man. But Epstein understood, based on firsthand experience, that Trump was a dangerous man for him, as president, maximally dangerous,” Wolff noted.
“It was an obsession born out of his personal understanding of his old friend, and, I believe, his particular fear of him,” the author added.
