The manosphere influencers’ troubles are continuing to mount as they have to stay in a Miami prison before facing extradition to the UK
The controversial social media personalities Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan lost their chance to post bail on Wednesday.
Instead of getting temporary freedom, the judge in the case argued that they were flight risks because of the wealth they have accumulated from their standing in the so-called manosphere.
The duo remain in custody as they fight extradition to Britain over rape and human trafficking allegations.
Bail denied
Judge Lauren Louis rejected their bail request during court proceedings in Miami. She described the brothers as “quintessential flight risks.”
In her decision, Louis noted that “while [the brothers] may not in fact possess what extravagant holdings they portray themselves as possessing online, the record reflects that they possess an exceptional capacity to flee the jurisdiction.”
The Tate’s lawyers pushed back against the judge’s decision. The defense team argued that the brothers’ “extraordinary public visibility” would make fleeing impossible.
Federal agents originally arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on July 18. Both brothers hold dual citizenship in the United States and Britain. They deny any wrongdoing.
The Tate brothers are playing a character
U.S. prosecutors warned that allowing the brothers to post bail posed real risks to the public. They highlighted the British charges against the defendants that include physical assault and forcible rape, alongside details about the brothers’ webcam business and online courses called “Hustler’s University.”
During one of the hearings, prosecutors played a video of Andrew Tate saying “slap, slap, grab, choke, shut up bitch, sex.”
The brothers argued that they were merely playing characters and the world they have built in the manosphere is complete fiction. They added that videos showing off their extreme wealth were merely “theatrical” and “grandiose.”
“Top G is a caricature,” Tate said, calling it a hyperbolic character. “I do this to shake men out of apathy,” he added.
Andrew and Tristan’s legal troubles are not only limited to the US and UK. According to Reuters, Romanian authorities recently indicted them on charges of trafficking minors and money laundering. Their Romanian lawyer says that they vehemently deny every allegation.
