While many countries are trying to distance themselves from Israel, Serbia has chosen to open up a new Israeli-designed drone factory.
Serbia has officially opened a brand-new manufacturing facility dedicated to building Israeli-designed combat drones.
In an Instagram update on Thursday, President Aleksandar Vučić announced that the new plant will employ roughly 100 workers.
According to the leader, the site will produce modern equipment for Serbia’s military and overseas customers.
No press allowed
Members of the press were absent. According to the Associated Press, Vučić explained in his post that journalists could not attend due to the “confidentiality of the production process.”
Back in April, Vučić first revealed that Serbia intended to partner with Israel on drone manufacturing. Regional news outlet BIRN reported during the same month that state arms maker Yugoimport SDPR was teaming up with an Israeli firm.
Serbia is already eyeing a wider expansion. “Our plans are huge,” Vučić wrote on his official account. “We believe that we will open with our Israeli partners at least three more factories throughout Serbia.”
Chasing the opponent
Short video clips published on social media provided a rare look inside the new assembly facility. The footage captured the president touring the floor, inspecting hardware, and taking control of an active drone.
“Now you can see how the drone is used and how it works,” Vučić told viewers as he tested the equipment. “They go through the windows and chase the opponent, they are incredibly efficient.”
The president emphasized that the project marks a major milestone for national engineering capabilities. “I am very happy that we have reached this level of development,” Vučić said while showcasing the small craft.
