But sometimes those very promises deliver a heartbreaking twist instead.
A painful admission
A grieving mother just shared a devastating political regret according to Daily Beast. Donna Ganger spoke at a public gathering for families affected by recent federal immigration crackdowns.
Her daughter, Renee Nicole Good, died in January after a federal officer opened fire in Minneapolis. Good was 37 years old and an American citizen.
Ganger told the crowd that she backed Donald Trump in the 2024 election because she believed his administration would keep her family safe.
Promises turn tragic
Instead, the family faced an unthinkable loss during an initiative known as Operation Metro Surge. An agent shot Good three times while she sat inside her car.
“I’m a registered Republican. I voted for President Trump under the impression that these agents were here to protect the citizens of the United States, innocents, like our family, and the others here, against terrorists, certainly not to accuse those of us here of being terrorists and take precious lives,” Ganger said. “This is madness.”
Top officials initially labelled Good a domestic terrorist. Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Vice President JD Vance claimed the young mother tried to weaponise her vehicle.
A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. Another fatal shooting occurred weeks later, forcing the government to halt the entire operation.
Heartbreak and politics
The mother described her relatives as a “very American blend” who might vote differently but still “love each other deeply.”
“It is our instinct and our honor to protect our children,” she explained to the forum.
“Fast forward to today, and it is torture that, as her mom and as a family, we could not protect Renee. But no one can protect against others who are determined to disregard our country’s constitutional rules and values. That is what happened on January 7,” Ganger said.
The Daily Beast reported that Trump called both deaths “terrible” but noted Good’s case was “worse” because her parents were “big Trump fans.”
Demanding real change
Ganger made it clear she is done waiting for empty gestures.
“The prayers and the words of support have truly brought us comfort. It is meaningful that these statements have come from people of all colors, all faiths, and all ideals. That’s the perfect reflection of Renee,” she said. “But thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need action. We need accountability.”
