She suggested that foreign leaders are deliberately stalling.

When a military conflict drags on, the fallout often lands on voters back home.

Leaders map out quick victories on paper.

But the reality of an extended fight brings unexpected political costs, and every battlefield decision suddenly carries a heavy price tag as election season approaches.

A surprising admission

President Donald Trump is facing new questions about a warning from his own family. The concern focuses on how the ongoing seven-month war with Iran might hurt Republicans at the ballot box.

Reporters questioned the president on Thursday about recent remarks made by his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. A journalist asked, “Lara Trump said the Iran war may threaten the midterms for you, do you agree with her or disagree with that?”

According to US News cited by the Irish Star, the president offered a mixed response. “Well, it’s possible, I don’t know, it should help,” Trump said.

Lara Trump shared her original concerns during a recent interview on the YouTube show “Harry Cole Saves the West.” Cole had asked if the drawn-out campaign might ultimately damage the president’s legacy.

Holding out for the vote

“Well, it could cost him these midterms,” she replied. She added that her father-in-law “really hates the way things have gone with Iran, and wished that ‘things had more swiftly happened.”

She suggested that foreign leaders are deliberately stalling. “But you’re right, the Iranians are absolutely holding out until these midterm elections,” Lara continued.

She claimed that their goal is to ruin the president’s chances. “They want to do everything they can to damage this president’s hopes of these midterms going his way because they think it’s going to give them an advantage.”

A wider strategy

The war continues. The joint American and Israeli campaign reached its seventh month on Monday, stretching far beyond the swift operation leaders originally described.

Signals from Tehran indicate a desire to restart ceasefire discussions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke to journalists at the United Nations General Assembly last week, stating that “we don’t want it to get to the midterm elections.”

Looking ahead, the president recently spoke to TIME magazine about his plans. He noted that he might restart military strikes against Iran after the elections if both sides fail to reach a deal, adding that he doesn’t think “you could ever have peace” with the nation.
