Trump’s battleground speeches are supposed to help Republicans in the midterms, but they just keep getting weirder.
Trump’s midterm speech blitz continues, as yesterday the president went to Arizona and Alaska to try to reinvigorate his voter base before the midterm elections.
The speeches are supposed to highlight the candidates in the state he is traveling to. But somehow the speeches just always revolve around him.
The speech in Arizona was no different. There was a lot of bragging and touting personal accomplishments. And then the speech turned weird and hostile towards his fans in the crowd in a mocking way.
‘Collateral damage’
Trump went completely off-script and started to talk about the doctors who travel with him around the country during these battleground speeches after he complimented himself on how much mental capacity he has.
Here, he said that the doctors think he is the most important man at that venue and that the medics would leave people alone if they were dying.
“I travel with doctors. If people get sick in the audience, they leave them alone. You know what they call them? Collateral damage,” Trump bragged.
Personal attack on an audience member
After calling people in the crowd “collateral damage,” Trump then launched a personal attack against an audience member.
“If that person right over there, he looks like garbage actually. He looks like he’s ready to have a heart attack. If he did, my doctors would leave him alone,” Trump quipped while the crowd laughed nervously.
There is no danger today of Trump insinuating that his supporters’ lives are not worth saving, as there is no scheduled rally. Trump is, however, hosting a tele-rally tonight where the president will speak directly to a large group of remote Trump supporters.
Whether he can keep his insults to himself tonight remains to be seen.
