Federal agents executed a search warrant at Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington home early Monday morning.

The federal search of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence has drawn sharp reactions in her home state of Minnesota.

Among members of the local Somali American community, the action has fueled anger and concern regarding the Trump administration.

Federal authorities searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington residence early Monday morning.

Following the raid, several Somali American residents in Minnesota voiced strong criticism of the White House.

Jamal Osman, vice president of the Minneapolis City Council, spoke out following the search, accusing the administration of using intimidation tactics against the local Somali community.

“Somalis, we all feel attacked by President Trump,” Osman said, according to Fox News.

“Our president has broken the law many times. ICE [is] terrorizing our community, and we’re not surprised such action has taken place.”

Local Community Responses

Reactions across Minneapolis reflected widespread concern. Abdi, a 37-year-old social worker, viewed the operation as a political attempt to demean the lawmaker:

“I feel like raiding a congresswoman, it feels like Donald Trump and his regime wanted to use their power to dehumanize and also humiliate someone that is part of the Congress,” Abdi said, according to Fox News.

Other local residents expressed little surprise at the escalation. A 22-year-old local woman noted that ongoing federal scrutiny regarding Omar’s naturalization status made an eventual investigation seem predictable.

Background of the Investigation and Administration Response

The raid stems from an investigation into allegations of fraud concerning Omar’s original immigration documents from decades ago.

According to media reports, agents seized computers, phones, and passports during the search of her residence, Fox News reports.

During a public appearance, President Donald Trump denied involvement in directing the operation, deferring the matter to federal prosecutors.

“I’ve always found her to be totally crooked, personally, but that has nothing to do with me,” Trump said.

Omar has forcefully rejected the investigation, characterizing the probe as a politically motivated attack.

Questions Over the Timing

The timing of the search has drawn further scrutiny.

Conducted just weeks before the November midterm elections, senior Democrats questioned whether the operation breached Justice Department norms against taking public investigative actions close to an election.

While critics argue the timing points to political motivations, the search itself does not prove any criminal wrongdoing by Omar, according to The Washington Post.
