Now, another quiet loss behind closed doors is adding to that long history of heartbreak.
A quiet life of service
Kyle Kennedy, a granddaughter of former US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, has died at age 42. According to the Irish Star, she passed away on September 21 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts, and her cause of death has not yet been determined.
People magazine reported that the Westwood Town Clerk is still looking into the circumstances surrounding her death. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1984 to Michael and Victoria Gifford, she was one of 34 grandchildren of Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy Sr. and Ethel Kennedy, the Irish Star noted.
Her obituary, cited by the Irish Star, remembered her as a dedicated educator and disability advocate who worked to improve early schooling for underprivileged children and people with disabilities.
After suffering a severe spinal cord injury in 2020 that left her with long-term paralysis, she spoke out against healthcare discrimination at the Massachusetts State House.
Rare moments in the spotlight
For most of her life, Kennedy avoided fame. She briefly made headlines in 2012 when her cousin Conor Kennedy showed up at her wedding with his then-girlfriend Taylor Swift, though TMZ reported that the pop star always insisted she was invited.
According to the Mirror US, she and her ex-husband Liam Kerr welcomed twins named Conor and Josie, though baby Josie died just two days after birth.
Two years later, the pair had another child, Declan. She leaves behind her children, her mother, her siblings Michael and Rory, and several nieces and nephews, the Irish Star reported.
Another blow for the dynasty
Her loss comes less than a year after another heartbreak for the extended family. According to the Irish Star, Caroline Kennedy’s daughter, environmental journalist Tatiana Schlossberg, died at 35 in December 2025 after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer.
On December 30, 2025, the JFK Library Foundation shared an Instagram statement signed by her loved ones. “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the family wrote.
Earlier this year, 68-year-old Caroline Kennedy paid tribute to her late daughter during a speech reported by the Irish Star. “Most of all, we remember Tatiana, who served on the board of this library and represented everything my parents stood for in her beautiful, amazing, and too-short life,” she said.
