A dispute over an ATM queue led to a physical altercation involving comedian Paul Whitehouse on Essex Road in Islington.

British comedian Paul Whitehouse was recently involved in a physical confrontation at a cashpoint in north London, the Daily Mail reported.

The incident occurred during an errand in Islington, where the 68-year-old actor was withdrawing cash on the street.

According to his wife, he was on his way to pick up medication for her when the encounter took place on Essex Road.

Initial social media posts suggested the entertainer had been the victim of a robbery.

However, security footage from the scene and statements from local witnesses later indicated that the outburst apparently stemmed from a dispute over the queue at the ATM.

The assailant became angry after believing Whitehouse had cut ahead in line, the Daily Mail reports.

The individual did not keep the bank card; following the clash, the person tossed the card back toward Whitehouse before leaving the scene.

Stand at the cashpoint

Whitehouse defended himself during the sudden confrontation and retrieved his card.

A local shopkeeper expressed surprise over the episode to the Daily Mail, describing the reaction as violent relative to the situation.

Word of the incident first reached the public over the weekend when the actor’s wife, Dr. Mine Conkbayir, detailed the events on Instagram.

In her post, she urged members of the public to exercise caution and advised people to “please be super vigilant out there” in the area, according to the Daily Mail.

Physical and verbal attack

A spokesperson for Whitehouse described the event as a distressing physical and verbal attack, adding that they had no further comment to make.

The couple have been together for more than two decades and live close to each other in north London.

The incident has renewed public debate regarding safety and security across the capital following several recent occurrences involving public figures.

Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the cashpoint incident, the Daily Mail reports.
