Ilhan Omar driven out by death threats: “It’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids visiting”

Representative Ilhan Omar is leaving her Washington D.C. home after a federal search of her property.

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar says she is being forced to leave her Washington DC home following a federal search of her property on October 12.

Federal agents searched Omar’s home after arriving around 6:00 EDT. Omar and her husband were awakened by heavy pounding on the door, finding that 15 to 25 agents from Homeland Security Investigations had surrounded the building.

Although Omar described the experience as bizarre, she noted that the officers conducted themselves in a decent manner.

Officers presented a search warrant before inspecting the property. During the five-hour operation, officers seized 17 personal belongings, such as laptops, phones, documentation, and a vintage camera, according to MS NOW.

Forced move

The operation has disrupted the congresswoman’s living situation. Because the search exposed her location to the public, Omar stated she can no longer reside there safely with her family.

“With the death threats that I deal with, it’s not, it’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids visiting on and off,” she told MS NOW.

“It obviously did freak all of us out,” she added.

Federal officials confirmed the raid is part of an active criminal investigation, though authorities have not disclosed specific charges. Investigators have also issued over a dozen subpoenas to members of her family.

Political clash

The Democratic lawmaker criticized the federal investigation, framing it as a political action. In a statement released shortly after the raid, she described the operation as “an outrageous abuse of power” and “weaponisation of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” MS NOW reports.

In a detailed statement, former President Barack Obama criticized the investigation, labeling it “so appalling.”

The incident has also highlighted ongoing friction between Omar and former President Donald Trump. Trump distanced himself from the raid, maintaining that the search “has nothing to do with me.” However, Omar rejected his stance, arguing that the investigation stems from comments Trump made about her as far back as 2019.

Status of the investigations

The execution of the search warrant marks a significant escalation in the legal scrutiny surrounding Representative Ilhan Omar, with authorities examining both her financial disclosures and family immigration records.

As we have previously reported, her defense team has launched a legal challenge to contest the warrant and demand the return of seized property.

Omar continues to deny all allegations, characterizing the operation as a political abuse of power.

No criminal charges have been filed against the congresswoman, and the outcome remains dependent on upcoming court rulings and further evidence made public as proceedings develop.
