Meghan Markle’s father investigated overseas: Official says signs point to “offender of the grossest kind”

Philippine authorities are investigating Thomas Markle after seizing computer hardware and photographic material from his former residence.

Philippine law enforcement has launched an international investigation into Thomas Markle after seizing computer hardware and photographic material from his former residence in Cebu.

The inquiry into the 82-year-old father of the Duchess of Sussex began when his son, Thomas Markle Jr., reported finding illicit material among his father’s belongings.

The elder Markle, a retired Hollywood lighting director, left the Philippines in May and is currently recovering in a Florida rehabilitation facility following a leg amputation, according to the Daily Mail.

Forensic Review Underway

Forensic specialists are examining a laptop recovered from the property to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.

Philippine Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla cautioned that family dynamics complicate the inquiry, but confirmed the gravity of the material under review.

“Right now all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind,” Remulla told The Guardian, noting that digital forensics should conclude within a week, the Daily Mail reports.

Claims of a Setup

Markle strongly rejected the allegations from his Florida facility, denying any wrongdoing during his residence abroad.

“I am not. I am innocent. I never did anything in the Philippines,” Markle told the Mail, alleging the evidence had been deliberately planted to tarnish his reputation.

His daughter Samantha Markle echoed that defense, pointing out that multiple people had access to the storage area where the electronics were kept.

The allegations follow a formal rupture in family relations; Meghan Markle previously sent a letter severing contact between her father and her two children, later expressing “deep distress” over the emergence of the claims, according to the Daily Mail.

Questions Mount Over British Police Protocol

The case has also drawn scrutiny toward British policing. London’s Metropolitan Police acknowledged receiving a seven-page dossier concerning Markle in 2019, sent by his late former wife, Roslyn Loveless.

While Scotland Yard briefed royal officials at the time, detectives did not pass the warnings to overseas agencies such as the FBI.

Child protection advocates have criticized that silence, according to the Daily Mail.

Jim Gamble, a prominent international campaigner against child exploitation, told BBC Radio 4 that police forces have an established protocol to route cross-border allegations through bodies like the National Crime Agency and embassy legal attachés, arguing that withholding such intelligence undermines global safeguarding efforts.
