When King Charles III went to the hospital in January 2024, it was meant to be a routine treatment for an enlarged prostate. But shortly after, it was revelead that the King had cancer.

A lot of secrecy

Exactly what kind of cancer, the King suffers from, has never been disclosed by Buckingham Palace, but ever since the shocking news came to light, the King has undergone weekly treatments.

Hospitalized

The Monarch was briefly hospitalized in April 2025 due to experiencing side effects from his treatment – and that’s basically all we know.

A grim prediction

However, the highly respected royal correspondant, Tom Sykes, recently said in an interview with The Daily Beast, that the King might only have “three or four years” left.

Succession plans speeding up

In the interview, Sykes said: “The reality is that everybody knows that succession plans are gearing up, no one is really expecting Charles to live, you know, more than three or four years.”

“All smoke and mirrors”

The King himself has also fueled the rumours about his life expectancy. During Easter last month, a well wisher told the King that he looked well, to which the King replied: “You are very kind, it’s all smoke and mirrors.”

New coronation in 2028?

It’s important to note that noone knows how long the King has left, but if Sykes is right about his prediction, we might experience a new coronation as early as 2028 – just six years after the coronation of King Charles III.
