Tensions between Russia and Ukraine remain high as Moscow firmly rejected an ultimatum issued by Kyiv and its European allies demanding a 30-day ceasefire ahead of direct peace talks.
At a press briefing on Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made Russia’s position clear.
“The language of ultimatums is unacceptable to Russia. It does not suit us. You cannot speak to Russia in this way,” Peskov said, according to AFP, as reported by Digi24.
Russian Proposal for Direct Talks
The sharp response comes in the wake of President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to restart direct negotiations with Ukraine aimed at ending the ongoing war. Peskov indicated that this proposal has been met with support from “world leaders,” although he did not provide specifics.

He reiterated Russia’s stated desire to seek a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict. “Russia intends to find ways to achieve a long-term, peaceful settlement of the war,” Peskov added, while refusing to offer further details about any potential talks or format for negotiations.
The rejection of the ultimatum underscores the fragile and tense atmosphere that continues to define the war diplomacy efforts between Russia, Ukraine, and Western powers.
