The five trucks with humanitarian aid that went into Gaza Monday is a “drop in the ocean”.

What is happening?

Israel is ramping up military operations in Gaza amid widespread condemnation due to the months-long blockade of humanitarian aid to the two million people in the Strip.

Five trucks allowed

Sunday night, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that he would ease the nearly two months long blockade to prevent a “starvation crisis”.

Monday the Israeli military allowed five trucks of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

Speaking to BBC’s Radio 4, UN humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, confirmed that the five trucks had entered Gaza, but he described it as a “drop in the ocean”, as it is not nearly enough.

In Gaza – technically

He went on to say that the trucks, which contain baby food, have not reached the civilians. They are in Gaza, but just on the other side of the border.

14,000 baby lives at risk

Fletcher warned that as many as 14,000 babies could lose their lives in the next 48 hours, if aid doesn’t reach them in time.
