The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for a widely sold ground beef product due to possible contamination with E. coli.
The warning applies to “Organic Rancher Organic Ground Beef 85% Lean 15% Fat” sold at Whole Foods Market stores across the country.
What to Look For
- Brand: Organic Rancher
- Product: Organic Ground Beef, 85% Lean / 15% Fat
- Use or Freeze-By Dates: June 19, 2025 or June 20, 2025
- Establishment Number: EST. 4027 (printed on the package)
If you have this product in your fridge or freezer, do not consume it. Either dispose of it safely or return it to the store where you purchased it for a refund.
At the time of the alert, no illnesses have been linked to the product.

What Are the Symptoms of E. Coli?
If you’ve recently eaten this ground beef and start experiencing the following symptoms, contact a healthcare provider:
- Diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea or vomiting
- Low-grade fever
E. coli symptoms usually develop within 3–4 days of exposure.
