Russian areal attack was “retaliation” – but it shows how difficult it will be for Russia to win the war

According to the Kremlin, the swarm of drones sent at Ukraine last night was retaliation for “Ukraines terrorist actions”, likely referring to Operation Spiderweb.

What is happening?

Russia launched one of the biggest areal attacks on Ukraine last night, sending over 400 drones and 45 missiles.

At least 49 people were injured and three killed, according to Ukraine.

“Retaliation”

According to Reuters, the Russian Ministry of Defence, said in at statement that the attack was retaliation for the “terrorist actions” performed by Ukraine.

Operation Spiderweb

The “terrorist actions” most likelye refer to Operation Spiderweb, that was carried out by Ukraine last weekend.

Here, they managed to damage at least 40 Russian warplanes with drones smuggled deep into Russia.

Heavy attack – however …

The tragic loss of lives as well as injuries should not be downplayed in any way.

But the Russian attack, as heavy as it might have been, also shows how difficult it will be for Russia to actually win the war.

Same old

Analysts point out, that even though the attack was massive, it was nothing new.

Ukraine has become used to Russian drone attacks as well as missiles, meaning the Russian retaliation did by no means match the impact of Operation Spiderweb.

Russian struggles

The fact that Russia does not use anything new to retaliate, shows that Russia simply does not have anything else in their toolbox.

And since Ukraine keeps excecuting special operations of historic proportions, Russia will keep struggling.
