These 5 countries are Russias worst enemies – according to the Russians

The US is number 4 on the list.

What is happening?

For decades, the US has been Russias enemy no. 1 in the Russian public opinion, but that has changed now.

Down to 4th

According to an analasys made by the independent Russian Levada institute, the US is now 4th on the list of “hostile” and “unfriendly” countries when asking the average Russian.

Five European countries

The analysis shows that Russians now see Germany and the UK as the worst enemies.

3rd on the list is Ukraine, 4th is the US, and on 5th and 6th we find Poland and France.

Changing with the years

The analysis have been made every year since 2011, but it was also conducted in 2009 and 2005-2006.

Looking back at the results from then, the most unfriendly countries in Russian opinion was countries like Georgia, the Baltics and Ukraine.

The best friends

The participants were also asked what countries are the most friendly, and unsurpricingly, Belarus and China is at the top of that list.

Another three

3rd on the friendly-list is Kazakhstan, followed by India and North Korea.

The Trump Effect

Looking at the US specifically, it is clear that there was a change in public opinion when Donald Trump took office once again.

More than twice as many

When asked about Russias biggest enemies back in September of 2024, only 16 % of Russians said that they felt “good” about the US.

In February, that number had gone up to 30 %, and in May, the number reached 37 %.
