What is happening?
In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump issued a thinly veiled death threat to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
“He is an easy target”
In the post, Trump started out by saying that “we know excacly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding,” adding that Khamenei is an easy target, but that he’s safe there.
Not killing him – now
The next part of the post included the very clear threat:
“We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers.”
Patience wearing thin
Trump went on to say that the US patience with Iran is “wearing thin”. It’s unclear excacly what Trump is referring too, but it’s most likely the negotiations between the US and Iran regering the Iranian nuclear programme, that has been going on for months.
Wants “unconditional surrender”
In another post on Truth Social, released just three minutes after the previous one, Trump simply posted: “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”
Plot to kill the Ayatollah
Sunday, news broke that Israel actually had the opportunity to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameney.
Trump vetoed
But two unnamed US Officials told Reuters, that US President Donald Trump vetoed the plans, because Iran has not killed any Americans yet.
“Until they do we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership,” said one of the sources, a senior U.S. administration official
Netanyahu: “So many false reports”
In an interview with Fox New’s “Special Report With Bret Baier”, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that “there’s so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that” when asked about the reports.
“We do what we need to do”
However, he added that Israel will do what they need to do, before saying:
“I think the United States knows what is good for the United States.”
