Hezbollah Warns U.S. of “Grave Consequences” Over Threats to Assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader

Hezbollah has condemned a U.S. threat to target Iran’s top religious figure, warning that even voicing such intent deeply insults the global Muslim community and could spark serious repercussions.

Lebanese militia and key Iranian ally Hezbollah issued a stern rebuke on Thursday following comments from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was a military target.

Hezbollah called the rhetoric reckless and warned of “grave consequences” for even entertaining such threats.

As reported by 20minutos, Hezbollah declared that “the threat of assassination is an act of senselessness and recklessness,” describing the language as offensive to “hundreds of millions” of Muslims around the world.

The group also emphasized Khamenei’s revered status as a religious authority across the Islamic world—not just within Iran.

Trump Statement Triggers Outrage

Hezbollah’s statement came in response to Trump’s post on Truth Social earlier this week, in which he wrote, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.”

The post has drawn swift backlash from allies of Tehran, as well as independent observers who warned it could dangerously escalate tensions in the region.

Warning Against Escalation

The Shiite movement warned the U.S. it is “sinking into a deep abyss” due to its unconditional support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and confrontational posture towards Iran.

While Hezbollah has not directly entered the conflict between Israel and Iran, the group remains a powerful Iranian proxy and has previously suffered losses from Israeli strikes.

With the Middle East already volatile amid mutual attacks by Israel and Iran, Hezbollah’s statement signals the potential for wider conflict if inflammatory rhetoric continues.

Their message ends with a clear caution: provoking revered religious symbols could ignite unrest far beyond the battlefield.
