When a beloved classic gets a remake, emotions run high. Disney’s live-action version of Snow White was always going to get attention.

But few expected the conversation to turn this bitter. Much of the criticism was directed not at the film itself, but at its star — Rachel Zegler, writes Tag24.

Zegler, now 24, has spoken openly about how hard the experience has been. After months of online hate and pressure, she said she needed help just to keep going.

Anti-Anxiety Medication

In a recent interview, she said it was her psychiatrist and anti-anxiety medication that got her through.

“My shitty psychiatrist got me through everything,” she said. Her doctor reminded her that the situation she was in wasn’t normal. Hearing that helped. Sometimes, she said, that sentence alone “worked true miracles.”

The backlash started when Zegler made comments about the original 1937 version of Snow White. She called the film outdated.

She also said the prince in the story seemed to “stalk” Snow White. That didn’t sit well with many longtime fans.

After that, things snowballed. Some people online demanded she be removed from the role. Others called for a boycott of the film.

Clashed with Co-Star over Differing Views on the Middle East Conflict

Zegler also reportedly clashed with her co-star, Gal Gadot, who played the Evil Queen. The disagreement was said to involve their views on the Middle East conflict.

When the film was finally released in March, it flopped at the box office. The buzz leading up to it had done more harm than good. Even with Disney behind it, the film couldn’t recover from the wave of criticism.

Despite everything, Zegler is moving forward. She is now performing in the lead role of Evita at London’s West End Theatre.

She says she’s feeling better and is looking to the future. After what she went through, that’s no small thing.
