A British woman has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after posting holiday selfies wearing stolen jewelry, according to CNN and Humberside Police.

Theft Uncovered After Holiday Trip

Lucy Roberts, 39, a former manager at a luxury jewelry store in Humberside, England, had been quietly taking items home from the shop.

She told colleagues she was “working from home and sorting stock for the jewellery workshop” when suspicions arose.

The full extent of the theft came to light only after Roberts resigned and went on a cruise vacation. During her trip, she began sending selfies to former colleagues, wearing some of the missing jewelry.

“Without a care in the world, full of diamonds, thinking she had fooled everyone,” said Detective Krista Wilkinson in a statement from Humberside Police.

Stolen Goods Discovered at Home and Airport

Following an investigation, police searched Roberts’ home and found boxes filled with gold and silver diamond jewelry worth thousands of pounds hidden under the bed and in closets.

In total, authorities say she stole more than $170,000 worth of jewelry and cash from the store.

Roberts was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport upon returning from her holiday.

According to police, she was carrying a significant amount of the stolen jewelry in her luggage. Surveillance footage from the airport shows her attempting to discard several pieces of jewelry while being escorted by police.

Initially, Roberts denied the charges, claiming she had borrowed some jewelry from a colleague and that other items had been placed in her bags without her knowledge. She later pleaded guilty to theft.

Roberts was sentenced to 28 months in prison.
