Pacers Opt for Long-Term Health Over Risky Return

Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire 2025–26 NBA season, team president Kevin Pritchard confirmed Monday. The decision, though expected, closes the door on any potential late-season comeback for the All-Star after he suffered a torn Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Pritchard acknowledged regret over allowing Haliburton to continue playing earlier in the postseason despite a lingering calf issue that may have contributed to the more severe injury.

“Looking back, I would not let him play through the calf injury,” Pritchard said at a press conference.

Pacers Focus on 2026–27 as Haliburton Begins Rehab

Although modern surgical techniques have shortened Achilles recovery times, with some players returning in nine months, Indiana will not rush its franchise cornerstone. Haliburton, who averaged 18.6 points and 9.2 assists during the regular season, was instrumental in leading the Pacers to their first Finals appearance in two decades.

In the playoffs, he averaged 17.3 points and 8.6 assists, serving as the engine of Indiana’s high-paced offense that even the league’s top defenses struggled to contain. The Pacers aim to prioritize his full recovery over short-term gains, looking ahead to a stronger campaign in 2026–27.

Indiana Plans to Bring Back James Wiseman as Backup Center

Pritchard also revealed the team’s intention to re-sign James Wiseman on a minimum contract. The former second-overall pick signed with Indiana last year but tore his Achilles in the season opener. He was later traded to Toronto, which waived him.

Wiseman is expected to be fully healthy by training camp and would slot in behind Jay Huff, who was acquired this offseason to fill the stretch five role following Myles Turner’s move to Milwaukee.

With Haliburton sidelined and roster changes unfolding, the Pacers will look to regroup and maintain momentum while planning for a stronger push the following season.
