The local community in Aberdeen is still scarred by the tragedy.

In March 2000, John Price was killed in his home in Aberdeen, New South Wales.

His partner, Katherine Knight, was behind a murder that shocked all of Australia with its brutality and aftermath.

First Woman with Life Sentence

In 2001, Katherine Knight became the first woman in Australian history to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to News.com.au, the court described the crime as premeditated and carried out with cold precision.

Relationship with John Price

On the surface, the couple seemed ordinary. But behind closed doors, the conflicts were fierce.

At one point, John Price obtained a restraining order against Katherine Knight.

The day before the murder, he warned colleagues: if he did not show up for work, they should raise the alarm.

Inside the house, investigators found an unprecedented crime scene. Katherine Knight was discovered unconscious after taking pills.

An Unprecedented Crime Scene

Signs of cooking were found on the stove, and plates were left out—a macabre, staged tableau that shocked even experienced officers.

Former investigator Luke Taylor has since pointed out the many overlooked red flags: systematic violence, manipulation, and a fixation on weapons.

Judge’s Harsh Words

In sentencing, the court emphasized the cruelty of the crime and the lack of remorse.

“The last minutes of [Price’s] life must have been a time of profound terror for him, just as they were a time of pure pleasure for her,” said Judge Barry O’Keefe.

Appeal Denied — Sentence Upheld

Katherine Knight attempted to have her sentence reduced in 2006.

The Court of Appeal upheld her sentence of life without parole. She remains incarcerated at Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre near Sydney.
