North Korea launched a suspected short-range ballistic missile on Nov. 7 that flew roughly 700 kilometers toward waters off its eastern coast, South Korean and Japanese authorities said, in a show of force that followed renewed U.S. offers for talks.

This was reported by Reuters.

South Korea’s military reported the projectile was fired from the country’s northwest near the Chinese border and that allied surveillance tracked the launch from preparation through splashdown.

Japan said the object landed outside its exclusive economic zone and reported no damage. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi confirmed there were no immediate reports of harm.

The launch came amid a recent flurry of North Korean tests, including what Pyongyang described as “strategic” sea‑to‑surface cruise missiles over the Yellow Sea, timed around U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to South Korea for APEC meetings.

Analysts say the tempo of tests appears intended to signal capability and resolve while complicating diplomatic overtures.

U.S. and South Korean intelligence assessments cited publicly by analysts warn that North Korea retains the option to carry out a seventh nuclear test on short notice if its leadership so decides, with the Punggye‑ri test site’s Tunnel No. 3 often identified as the likeliest location.

Experts note that a political decision by Pyongyang could shorten the timeline between order and test.
