Brendan Fraser says the upcoming chapter in the ‘The Mummy’ universe will be what both he and fans have been waiting for.
After more than two decades without a sequel, the actor now hints that the franchise is returning in the form he always hoped for.
His comments come just months after a major reunion between several of the original stars.
Fraser breaks the silence
In a new interview with the Associated Press, the 56-year-old Oscar winner says that the film he had long wanted to make is finally on its way.
According to Fraser, “the one I wanted to make was never made,” as he reflects on the trilogy that began in 1999.

Still, he emphasizes that he is satisfied with the third film, which he describes as “a good standalone movie.” But now everything is changing: “I’ve been waiting for this call for 20 years… Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want,” he told AP.
Reunions and absences
In July, several iconic cast members gathered at Fan Expo Denver, 26 years after the first film’s premiere. Among those present were Fraser, Patricia Velásquez, John Hannah, and Oded Fehr.
Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo were not in attendance, but both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter report that Weisz is in talks to return as Evelyn Carnahan. Whether Vosloo, who played Imhotep, will appear again is still unknown.
New direction behind the camera
According to both Deadline and THR, the directing duo Radio Silence — Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — are developing the film. They previously directed horror titles such as ‘Ready or Not’, the ‘Scream’ reboots, and ‘Abigail’.
Their involvement suggests a potentially darker, more suspense-driven tone than the earlier adventure films, which blended action and humor.

For now, neither plot details nor a release date have been announced. Fraser did not reveal further specifics in the interview, but his enthusiasm suggests the project is finally moving forward.
