The show follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, charting their early adventures in a period long before the Targaryen civil wars.
Newly released stills show the pair sharing a rare celebratory moment, underscoring the show’s lighter tone compared with other Westeros stories.
Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama, said the network was “thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years” and described Dunk and Egg’s journey as an “inspiring underdog tale.”
Fire Renewed
HBO has also locked in the future of its flagship prequel House of the Dragon. Warner Bros Discovery reports that season three will arrive in summer 2026, pushing deeper into the Dance of the Dragons, the brutal Targaryen civil war dividing Team Black and Team Green.
Season two concluded with tensions ready to explode, and the outlet notes that the Battle of the Gullet is expected to launch the third installment.

Fresh stills provided by HBO include an image of Rhaenyra studying her crown and another of Daemon blood-soaked in mid-combat, signalling the scale of the conflicts ahead.
Years Ahead
Orsi said House of the Dragon would “ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet,” emphasizing HBO’s confidence in both series as cornerstones of its programming strategy.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres January 18, 2026, marking the start of what the network calls a new multi-year era of Westeros storytelling.
