The new chapter in The Witcher has stirred fresh debate among longtime fans, with a familiar voice from the franchise weighing in.

As the show enters its post–Henry Cavill era, one of the saga’s most recognized contributors says the transition has landed better than many expected.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ during the Golden Joystick Awards, veteran voice actor Doug Cockle shared his first impressions of the series’ newest lead.

Changing the guard

Cockle, who has portrayed Geralt of Rivia in CD Projekt Red’s games since the first 2007 release, recalled Cavill’s earlier performance fondly.

According to GamesRadar+, he told the outlet: “I loved Henry. He was a fantastic Witcher, Geralt, specifically, so I was sad to see him go.”

After watching the latest season, however, Cockle said Liam Hemsworth’s approach had won him over. “I think Liam holds up pretty well,” he said, noting that Hemsworth had developed “his own character,” which Cockle felt was the right creative move.

He added that he now looks forward to season five and “seeing where it goes,” according to the GamesRadar+ interview.

Fresh direction

Cavill led Netflix’s live-action adaptation for three seasons before handing the role to Hemsworth for season four.

As reported by GamesRadar+, reactions to the new casting and the season overall have ranged widely, even as some reviewers — including GamesRadar+ itself — have praised the latest run.

Cockle continues to be closely connected to the wider franchise. Beyond his six game appearances as Geralt, he recently voiced the character in the animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.

As anticipation builds for the final season, industry watchers expect the franchise to continue expanding through additional spin-offs and animated titles.
