Prince William has revealed that his children have recently discovered the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers.

Speaking at the Tusk Conservation Awards at London’s Savoy Hotel on Wednesday night, the Prince of Wales told the show’s creator and star John Cleese that his family has been enjoying the 1970s comedy together.

William said they were having “a lot of family laughs” watching the series and that his children “love it.”

He added that he had been “reminiscing” while rewatching the episodes and enjoying the comedy “all over again.”

“It’s brilliant,” he told Cleese.

Cleese, attending the event as a Tusk ambassador alongside his wife Jennifer Wade and fellow ambassador Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, said the reaction didn’t surprise him.

“I always explain it’s about ‘who’s scared of who’ and kids pick that up immediately,” he told reporters afterward. “And mine, all those years ago, grew up watching it.”

William, who was born several years after the sitcom first aired in 1975, joins a long line of viewers who have rediscovered the show through its enduring status as one of Britain’s most beloved comedies.

Royal guests

The awards ceremony also welcomed several other members of the extended royal family, including Zara Tindall and her husband Mike, as well as William’s cousins Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer.

The evening honoured leading conservationists from across Africa, recognising their work to protect wildlife and natural ecosystems.
