A fatal accident inside a Russian military air shelter has drawn scrutiny after an ejection system reportedly fired while a bomber was stationary.
Details surfaced on Dec. 8 from Fighterbomber, a pro-Kremlin Telegram channel, which said both crew members died at the scene.
Shelter tragedy
According to the channel, the ejection mechanism activated unexpectedly on a parked aircraft, launching both seats into the shelter’s concrete ceiling.
The pilot and navigator suffered injuries described as impossible to survive.
A state commission has reportedly been tasked with examining how the system could have discharged on the ground.

Reactions and scrutiny
According to The New Voice of Ukraine, Ukraine’s Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat commented on Facebook with pointed irony, expressing hope that the charges detonating inside the shelter had produced what he called a “small fire onboard,” adding that such damage might render the aircraft unusable.
Earlier in the week, Ukraine’s Military Intelligence (HUR) announced the destruction of eight Russian military assets in occupied Crimea over a two-week span. The agency said the strikes included the elimination of a Su-24 bomber and attributed the operations to its Ghosts special unit.
