A surprise glimpse at the next chapter of Tomb Raider surfaced online just hours before its planned reveal at The Game Awards.

The early look hints at a refreshed Lara Croft, a new title and several in-game scenes that have quickly stirred up fan speculation.

Details remain unconfirmed, but the leak has already ignited debate across the series’ long-running community.

Back to beginnings

According to reports circulating online, the upcoming entry is titled Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis.

Outlets following the leak say it appears to revisit the premise of the 1996 original while blending in the personality and tone of the more recent reboot trilogy.

Those earlier games concluded in 2018 with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, marking the franchise’s last new mainline release.

Some industry watchers have also suggested, in separate reporting, that this may not be the only Lara Croft project teased at The Game Awards. For now, though, the leaked materials have taken centre stage.

Familiar pose, new look

One image shows Lara standing in a pose nearly identical to the silhouette used in the official teaser shared by The Game Awards, prompting many to believe the leak is authentic.

The screenshots depict a protagonist who echoes the modern redesign but features touches reminiscent of the classic era.

Scenes appear to include dense jungle settings, crumbling ruins and athletic traversal sequences, hallmarks that helped define the early identity of the franchise.

Anyone hoping to verify the leak will need to watch The Game Awards, scheduled for December 11, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. Pacific / 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Most audiences are expected to tune in through the show’s official YouTube and Twitch streams.

Beyond Lara’s return, the ceremony is set to feature fresh footage of PlayStation’s Saros and an unveiling tied to a mysterious statue that has fuelled months of speculation.

Many fans believe developer Larian Studios is preparing to announce a new Divinity title, though the studio has not yet confirmed it.
