A long-standing desert mystery may finally be solved.

A strange monument rising from the California desert ignited days of guessing games across social media.
Many fans were convinced it pointed to a surprise Elder Scrolls Online announcement.
Fresh clues now suggest the tease may instead belong to Larian Studios, the maker of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Evidence began mounting after MP1st spotted a new European trademark submission for “Divinity,” filed by a German firm long associated with Larian’s past registrations.
The discovery shifted attention back to the studio’s original RPG universe, which predates its Baldur’s Gate success by more than a decade.

Trademark trail
Larian’s Divinity franchise began in 2002 with Divine Divinity and culminated in the widely acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017.
Comparisons posted online show the creature-like symbol in the filing nearly matching the centerpiece of the California monument.
Reading the signs
The studio has also stated that neither of its upcoming games will be Baldur’s Gate-related.
Speculation around the Divinity brand isn’t new.
In May, Larian’s X account briefly switched its handle to @divinity, though Larian publishing director Michael Douse insisted the change was “just some meaningless internal work.”

Careful denials
As chatter surged following the trademark discovery, Douse posted unrelated comments on X, joking, “Hey we weren’t meant to announce that yet.” He later addressed the filings directly, saying, “There aren’t currently any plans for a new Divinity Original Sin 3 game but once we are ready to show what we’ve been working on we will.”
The careful wording left room for interpretation. While Douse ruled out Original Sin 3, he did not dismiss the possibility of a different Divinity project.
Countdown to answers
The truth behind the desert statue should finally emerge during The Game Awards 2025 on December 11. Until then, the debate over Larian’s next move continues to simmer.
