Canada Announces Sanctions on Russian Officials Following Navalny’s Death

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly revealed that Canada is taking a stand against Russia with a new set of sanctions.

This action is in response to the death of Alexei Navalny, who tragically passed away on February 16 in a penal colony in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.

Earlier in February, U.S. President Joe Biden also took action by announcing a package of sanctions against Russia.

These were in response not only to Navalny’s death but also to Russia’s continued aggression towards Ukraine. The sanctions focus on individuals linked to Russia’s financial and defense sectors, those directly involved in Navalny’s imprisonment, and individuals bypassing existing sanctions.
