Ukraine’s long-range campaign against Russian military infrastructure is pressing further into the country’s interior, signalling an expanded operational reach.
The latest reported strike suggests a shift toward targets previously considered beyond practical range, highlighting the evolving nature of the conflict.
The focus of the operation was a major ammunition storage site tied to Russia’s missile and artillery command structure.
Far from the front
According to reports from Ukrinform, Ukrainian forces targeted the arsenal of the 100th GRAU, the Main Directorate of Missiles and Artillery, near the town of Neya in Russia’s Kostroma region.
The facility sits more than 900 kilometres from the Russian-Ukrainian border, making it the most distant strategic installation reportedly struck by Ukraine so far.

Previous long-range attacks had reached the 51st GRAU arsenal near Moscow, but the Neya strike represents a deeper penetration into Russian territory.
Strategic pressure
If confirmed, the attack would mark the fifth Ukrainian strike against a Russian strategic arsenal since the campaign began.
According to United24Media, military analysts have described these depots as critical reserve hubs, supplying ammunition to Russian forces across multiple fronts.
By targeting storage and logistics rather than frontline units, Ukraine appears to be aiming to degrade Russia’s long-term combat capacity.
Explosions and evacuation
Amateur videos circulating on social media show powerful explosions erupting from the site, consistent with secondary detonations from stored ammunition.

Officials added that shockwaves damaged several residential buildings within a two-kilometre radius of the military complex.
The reports have not been independently verified, neither have the videoes allegedly showing the fallout of the attack.
