President Donald Trump has once again voiced his frustration with Denmark over Greenland, stating that the country has failed to address the “Russian threat” on the island.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “For 20 years, NATO has been telling Denmark, ‘You must remove the Russian threat from Greenland.’ Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now is the time, and it will be resolved!”
Trump has long expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, citing its strategic importance amid growing Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic region.
However, both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have consistently rejected the idea, insisting that Greenland is not for sale and does not wish to be part of the United States.
In addition, Trump suggested that the U.S. would implement tariff increases on European allies until the United States receives permission to purchase Greenland. He argued that Greenland’s significance to U.S. security, particularly in light of increasing Russian and Chinese activity, justifies this approach.
