A high-level call between Washington and Moscow has raised fresh concerns over global tensions.
Leaders from both countries discussed multiple conflicts, including Iran and Ukraine.
According to The Express, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Donald Trump that further US military action against Iran could have serious repercussions. The warning came during a 90-minute phone conversation in which both leaders also addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Russian officials said Putin views the prospect of a US ground operation in Iran as highly dangerous.
Warning issued
Reports cited by The Express indicate that Putin cautioned against renewed strikes, saying there would be “extremely harmful consequences” if the US or its allies launched another attack.
He also described any potential invasion as “extremely dangerous and unacceptable”, according to Russian media.
The comments reflect Moscow’s concern about escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Trump response
Trump described the call in positive terms, saying: “We had a very good conversation, I’ve known him a long time.”
He added that Putin had предложил taking control of Iran’s underground uranium supplies, though he said his priority remained ending the war in Ukraine.
“I said, before you help me, I want to end your war,” Trump said.
Ukraine talks
Discussions between the two leaders also touched on the possibility of a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
Trump said he had “suggested a little bit of a ceasefire” and indicated that Putin “might do that.”
Russian officials referenced the idea of a short-term truce tied to the upcoming anniversary of the end of World War II, although similar proposals in the past have not materialised.
Wider context
The call comes amid continued fighting in Ukraine and heightened geopolitical tensions involving Iran.
Trump has previously expressed confidence that a resolution to the Ukraine conflict could be reached quickly, while also criticising Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s approach to negotiations.
The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic efforts, even as divisions remain over how to resolve multiple international crises.
